Iris Care Group has an exciting new opportunity for (a) Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Clinical Neuropsychologist to join one of our well-established team at St Peter’s Hospital, Newport.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist with at least four years post-doctoral experience in neuropsychiatry, neuropsychology and/or services for older people. St Peters Hospital is a 51-bedded hospital based in Langstone, Newport. It caters for people with organic conditions, including dementia, Huntingtons disease, alcohol-related brain damage, and acquired brain injury. The people we support and treat often present with behavioural and psychological symptoms, including behaviours that challenge. We are looking for an experienced, innovative and values driven person to join our clinical team.

 

Role Responsibilities

To provide highly developed specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.

To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across in and out-patient settings.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

 

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will work with the existing service lead to deliver and develop psychological input into St Peters Hospital. The service provides integrated care and treatment for people with complex neuropsychiatric conditions, typically with associated challenging behaviour. The postholder will work alongside a comprehensive multidisciplinary team including Senior Nurses, Medics, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, a Dietician, and a Music Therapist. The post is supported by 3.0 WTE Assistant Psychologists. You will have a key role in informing and providing effective, evidence-based care pathways within the service.

We are rigorous in following professional, clinical and policy guidance in order to support high quality care. We take a person-centred perspective to all of our work and are committed to the current agenda around reducing restrictive practice and improving relationally focused care within mental health services, including services for people with neuropsychiatric needs. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support, training and consultancy to our staff teams and inform service development.
