Role Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Complete full assessment of patient’s nutritional status, using appropriate anthropometric, biochemical, and medical records and identify their nutritional requirements.
  • Devise core and specialist nutritional treatment plans e.g., diabetes, weight reducing, disordered eating and other medical areas.
  • Implement specialist group and individual treatments to achieve treatment goals.
  • Use patient centred motivation techniques to effect nutritional behaviour change.
  • Evaluate and modify interventions using appropriate outcome measures.
  • Practice in accordance with legislation according to your clinical area.

Communication

  • Communicate with patients, using the most appropriate verbal, written or pictorial method, in a way that respects their view, autonomy and culture.
  • Translate key nutritional messages into simple ideas and language that can be easily understood by the client group.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the clinical team and share information with the team members formally and informally via online meetings, attendance at core meetings if required.
  • Share relevant information and knowledge within the professional group.
  • Liaise with other departments within the service and beyond.
  • Communicate with families in a sensitive and compassionate manner.

Catering Liaison

  • Ensure the menu meets the ethically, cultural and health needs of all our client groups.
  • Ensure that the food choices meet National Nutritional Standards within the area of work. (MH and LD)
  • Ensure that the therapeutic diets as prescribed are delivered to the service users.
  • Train staff to provide good mealtime care.

 

Role Requirements

  • Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent dietetic qualification.
  • Registered to practice by HCPC.
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association
  • Experience in clinical dietetics.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD training.
  • Ability to work as an independent therapist.
  • Knowledge of Chaotic eating patterns and other areas such as Prader Willi/Autism/ restrictive eating.
