Job Title: Speech and Language Therapist

Base: Beechwood College

Hours of Work: Flexible according to the needs of the service based on 37.5 hours per week.

Reports to: Clinical lead/ Head of Therapy

Accountable to: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist/Head of Therapy

 

Beechwood College are looking for a qualified /newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist who wishes to develop their skills in autism and Learning Disabilities.

The Speech and Language Therapy Team offer a wide range of therapy sessions as well as providing training to staff on communication systems . Beechwood is a dynamic College that offers education and residential support to young people who may also present with behavioural challenges.

You will be joining a range of specialist therapists who make up the Clinical Team. Iris Care group offers regular supervision, training and research opportunities as well as payment of HCPC fees.

 

Overall Objective: To provide an effective Speech and Language therapy service within Beechwood College

Qualifications & Training: Degree in Speech and Language Therapy. Recognised professional qualifications are essential.

Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable ICG to meet its own legal duties and to report any hazardous situations or defective equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with a specialist/ complex case load which include young adults with Autism, learning difficulties and other diagnoses including behaviours that challenge
  • Caseload may also include supportive dysphagia management and training as directed by specialist Speech and Language therapist
  • To provide assessments, diagnostic and appropriate advice for students on caseload
  • To plan, deliver and monitor individual and group sessions as appropriate.
  • To use Total Communication Approach
  • To use Voice Output Devices including iPads and tablets as a form of Alternative and Augmentative Communication
  • To be part of ICG multi disciplinary team, liaising, co-ordinating and planning work with other professionals in specific residential homes and classes.
  • To encourage good liaison with other external agencies promoting positive good practice.
  • To contribute advice to families as necessary.
  • To attend MDT’s, staff meetings, CPD’s and in-service training as required.
  • To provide clinical reports for initial assessment, review, CHC and LAC purposes
  • To follow current administrative and statistical procedures as required by ICG.
  • To keep clinical notes as per professional guidance and standards and to present information to MDT’s.
  • To keep up to date with new techniques and research for the maintenance and promotion of good practice and to record same on the Professional Log of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • To be conversant with communicating quality guidelines and ensure agreed care standards are adhered to.
  • To ensure statistical information and client records are updated.
  • To participate in quality assurance and clinical audits as necessary.

 

General:

  • To work within the context of all ICG policies and procedures.

  • To communicate on a regular basis with line manager.
  • To attend regular staff appraisal and development meetings with line manager and be involved in peer review as appropriate.
  • To manage staff and offer effective supervision sessions and regular staff meetings as required.
  • To undertake appropriate training and CPD as agreed with line manager.
  • To undertake any other duties which are consistent with the post.
  • This job description is subject to periodic review and it is expected the post holder will contribute to the active development of the role as the needs of ICG.

Running groups and individual sessions.

 

Experience

 

Working with young adults with special needs and learning difficulties.

Using IT packages.

Ability to use standardised assessments

 

Working with young adults who have MLD, Autistic Spectrum disorders, Dysfluency.

Treating young adults with speech, language disabilities and social difficulties.
