Like our other services Ty Brynteg is based on the Recovery Model with high levels of relational security and strong multidisciplinary team (MDT) working to underpin people’s journeys to recovery.  For some of the men in our care their journeys have begun from medium secure services whilst others step down to Ty Brynteg from either low security or locked rehabilitation.

Set in a quiet location in the small town of Porth, Ty Brynteg has excellent access to local amenities including work opportunities, shops, libraries and cafes, whilst a wider range of facilities are on offer just a short distance away in the larger town of Pontypridd.

Ty Brynteg has been recognised for the excellent work that it does with men who in the past have found it all too easy to move through greater levels of security but have found it increasingly difficult to make the transition to step-down to community living.

In particular, Ty Brynteg has supported the individuals we support to gain paid employment and qualifications, develop their relationships, access continued therapy and to finally move onto greater independence with the least restrictions possible.  Some people have successfully moved to their own homes with minimal support from community teams, whilst others have moved forward to other types of supported living.

Ty Brynteg has proved a turning point for many of of the people it has supported, preventing revolving door admissions and reversing a pattern of repeated community breakdowns.

At Ty Brynteg we are able to offer continuity of care for individuals stepping down from our own hospitals or provide MDT support to people transferring from other services.  This is critical to be able to address therapeutic, psychiatric and psychological needs speedily with cohesive MDT working within Ty Brynteg itself.

Ty Brynteg offers six bedrooms plus a self-contained flat which promotes independent living.

M at Ty Brynteg celebrated his 40th birthday recently. The original plan was to have a big party with a disco and karaoke where he was going to invite his family and friends from the other houses and hospitals but due to the COVID-19 they had to alter the plans.

M still had a lovely day and received lots of cards and gifts in the post from his family, fellow service users and staff. He enjoyed a lovely buffet which was pre-plated to avoid sharing food plus a delicious chocolate birthday cake.

The most important thing M received was his big badge. He told staff he had always wanted a badge and that this was the first birthday badge he had ever had, actually he even ended up with 3!
