Situated in Treherbert in the Rhonda Valley which has a strong friendly community ethos, Ty Mynydd provides intensive relational support for women in a residential care setting. People referred may have complex needs relating to serious and enduring mental illness and or personality disorder. They may also have a diagnosis of Autism and or mild learning disabilities.
Many of the women who are referred have stepped down from either secure or locked rehabilitation services and may have a history of self-harm and trauma / abuse. Our experienced and skilled staff team support the women to develop safer ways of coping, using a range of evidence-based approaches integrated into our RISE programme. These include evidence based DBT, MBT and complex trauma approaches. We co-produce each person’s recovery support plan. Above all we understand the importance of relational care and of supporting the whole system to manage the emotions that can be activated when supporting people in severe distress with complex needs.
Given the complexity of individual needs at Ty Mynydd we provide our own in-house MDT clinical services with regular visits from our Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Psychologist. We have also forged strong partnerships with locality mental health teams. We take pride in working in equal partnership with the people we support, rather than delivering services “to them”.
We encourage individuals to integrate into the local community, and to use leisure, occupational and educational opportunities. Within the home there is a strong emphasis on developing all the skills that are necessary for greater independence in the future and to support people along their recovery pathway to the greatest independence possible.
Ty Mynydd offers 3 bedrooms, one of which is ensuite. The other bedrooms share both a shower room and bathroom. A large communal living room is a great place for everyone to socialise together, and a second lounge offers an alternative, quieter space to relax in.
The modern fitted kitchen is bright and spacious and has everything residents could need to create and enjoy meals together
Ty Mynydd also offers a self-contained 1-bedroom flat. Although connected to the rest of the house, the flat has its own private entrance to reinforce a feeling of independence. The flat enjoys its own bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen creating a complete self-contained living space.
Ty Mynydd is a 5-minute bus ride from Treorchy’s busy traditional high street and has a station close by for easy travel further afield. Positioned at the head of the Rhondda Valley, Ty Mynydd also provides doorstep access to beautiful scenery and all that nature offers.
