We’re delighted to share the news that Dr Dan Silva, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist at St Peter’s Hospital, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Quality Network in Neuropsychiatry.

This new role sees Dr Silva working closely with Dr Michael Dilley, Chair of the network, and a leading figure in the field. Dr Silva described the opportunity as “a genuine honour” and a chance to help shape the future direction of neuropsychiatric care at a national level.

Supporting Quality, Safety and Specialist Standards

The Quality Network in Neuropsychiatry is a significant development for the profession, as it marks the first time a framework has been created specifically to define the core competencies and standards expected of specialist neuropsychiatry services. It aims to give services and commissioners clarity on what ‘good’ looks like to ensure consistent delivery across the sector.

Dr Silva was initially invited to join the advisory group of specialists contributing to the design and direction of the network. Following these early discussions, he was approached by Dr Dilley to formally step into the Deputy Chair role. This invitation was based on his clinical expertise and leadership in the field.

Importantly, this role fits alongside Dr Silva’s current position at St Peter’s and enables him to bring direct insight from frontline service delivery into national decision making.

St Peter’s Playing a National Role

Dr Silva’s appointment reflects a broader recognition of the work being done at St Peter’s Hospital. The service is already closely aligned with the network’s emerging standards, and this new link means they will continue to be at the forefront of shaping and delivering care in line with the highest benchmarks.

As Deputy Chair, Dr Silva is now involved in interpreting national data, helping define quality metrics, and ensuring services are equipped with the right skills and training to meet the needs of neuropsychiatric patients.

Having a member of the St Peter’s team so closely involved in the development of national standards sends a clear message to referrers, patients and commissioners that St Peter’s Hospital is committed to clinical excellence, safety, and leading the way in specialist care.

Clinical Background and Leadership

Before joining St Peter’s, Dr Silva led neuropsychology services for the NHS in Berkshire, overseeing both acute rehabilitation and outpatient pathways. Prior to that, he held the role of Principal Psychologist in Winchester. His experience spans a wide range of services and settings, and his contributions have consistently focused on raising quality and improving outcomes for patients with complex needs.

Now, through his combined work locally and nationally, Dr Silva continues to advocate for a clear, consistent, and specialist approach to neuropsychiatry.

We are incredibly proud of this appointment and look forward to the benefits it will bring, not only for St Peter’s, but for neuropsychiatric services across the country.

“Having a member of the St Peter’s team so closely involved in the development of national standards sends a clear message to referrers, patients and commissioners that St Peter’s Hospitals is committed to clinical excellence, safety, and leading the way in specialist care.”
