Our friendly, qualified and experienced staff support all our students to develop key life skills in line with their individual learning plans.
Residential students have a Residential Key Worker, whose role it is to link with the education team and other professionals to ensure that the student’s residential care and support remains consistent at all times. Whilst day students are supported by their group Lecturer and Learning Support Assistant.
Daily routines and consistent staffing teams help to keep our students’ anxiety at a minimum and ensure that everyone feels safe in their surroundings. Our structured approach provides students with the confidence to learn, grow and achieve success.
Beechwood College is foremost a further education establishment and attendance at timetabled sessions is the primary focus for all students and actively encouraged. However, for our residential students it is also their home during term time.
Students are encouraged and supported to personalise their own rooms, and the team work to create strong supportive relationships whilst also ensuring that students do not feel they lose any of the family and friendship connections they have already made.
Leisure times are focused around the students’ own individual interests and residential students are encouraged to help organise and participate in evening and weekend activities, including visits to the cinema, leisure centre and restaurants, supporting their individual plans and personal growth.
From the moment a student considers coming to Beechwood College we work with them and their care team to ensure their Beechwood experience is well planned; minimising the stress of transition and facilitating the process of settling in and integrating into College life. Equally when a student is ready to leave us we endeavour to ensure they have all the skills they will need to successfully take the next step in their lives.
