Senior Support Worker

What does your typical day involve?

My typical day starts by planning the day with whichever service user I am allocated to. I ask them what they’d like to do and we build a schedule together.

We could go to the shops or plan a day trip to the beach, visit the city farm or even go to the pub next door! We go clothes shopping, go for a haircut, go to see family for the weekend and most recently we started swimming.

What are the service users like?

They are amazing and all so different. They’ve all got such individual personalities and they are lovely to spend time with and to get on with.

It’s really nice to build a relationship with them and build trust with each other. It’s a two-way thing and its lovely when you get to that point.

They’re all incredible and I love seeing them reaching goals, trying new things and having their independence, as well as receiving support.

How does Ludlow Street Healthcare compare with that you did before?

I started doing community care mainly with the elderly suffering from conditions such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. I then worked with people with learning difficulties and was a supervisor for community care before moving to a community house.

I worked with similar ranges of disabilities but at Ludlow Street Healthcare I have more freedom and it’s a lot more person-centred. They allow you to use your external experiences and bring them into your role.

Cherry Tree House is by far the best place I’ve ever worked with regards to being supported and it doesn’t feel like work – it’s that enjoyable.
