What does your job involve?
Working in the Education classrooms and Residential homes to support the student’s communication skills. This can involve direct work with the student, joint working with educational and residential staff, improving the communicative environment and staff training. The Speech & Language Therapists also work with the wider MDT to support and overcome any anxiety or distress caused by communicative breakdown.
What did you do before this?
I worked in the NHS supporting a large range of students with Autism within educational settings. I also supported communication aid users within Special Schools.
Why did you join Ludlow Street Healthcare?
I wanted to be able to spend more time in the location I worked rather than being spread across numerous different settings. I wanted the opportunity to really get to know the people I am supporting and their staff team to improve outcomes.
What’s the best part of your job?
Seeing the students and the team around them progress. Staff are regularly released to attend staff training that we deliver. It is great to see them using new skills to support communication and the positive impact this has on the students.
